Haibun - The Pain in Painting
The Pain in Painting
Dipping the brush into the ink, I sweep
the strokes across the page. Flesh and
blood transmute into rice and soot. An
oblong runs around it.
It holds the history of my suffering -
Of taking. Gland by gland. Organ
by organ.
Of giving. Stitch by stitch. Scar by
scar.
In the language of my Self, the kanji
translates to "torso". The word keeps
changing with the next surgery.
enso --
dissolving to nothingness
an opium pill
