Haibun - Strength

Strength

Finally, I gather my remaining strength
and make my way riverward. Foamy
white waves meet the clouds. Windblown
sails on the scattered day boats disappear,
then reappear just as unexpectedly. Like
strength. I collapse on a bench until the
clouds blacken and shred against a gold
sky. A hidden sun makes way for night.
I can't remember a May with such a chill.
I imagine it sharpening the points of stars.

by my side
the moon in the river
wavers with me
